Eric Bernstein joined GMAG in 2015.

As Manager of Alternative Investments, Eric is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the operations of the Alternatives portfolio. A core philosophy for GMAG is to use Alternatives within the overall portfolio to reduce beta and correlations to capital markets. As such, Eric engages with and analyzes managers of Hedge Fund and Private Equity opportunities. He is responsible for overseeing the due diligence on newly sourced investments and the monitoring of existing allocations on the investment platform.  Eric is a driving factor behind GMAG’s ability to bring customized and best-in-class ideas to meet diverse client needs.

Eric is a member of the Investment Management Due Diligence Association (IMDDA) and is vigilant in continuing education activities that further develop his strengths in performing business, financial, legal and operational due diligence.  He has enriched the mechanisms and processes to analyze and monitor both GMAG and client sourced private equity holdings. Eric has experience evaluating deals across sectors including real estate, retail, food and beverage, industrial, venture capital, and general private equity funds. As part of his work Eric communicates with hedge fund managers who employ various styles and strategies such as structured credit, event-driven, global macro, equity long/short, and other esoteric styles that historically have low correlations to equity markets.

Prior to joining GMAG, Eric was a Lead Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton. His key role as a Program Manager was to oversee various projects that improved business processes and IT Security compliance for government agencies. Eric managed the financial performance and business development activities for a sector under Booz Allen’s portfolio. Eric applies his consulting skills and perspectives to his work at GMAG where he institutes organizational best practices to improve operations.

Eric holds a dual B.S. degree in Decision Science and Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University.

Eric and his wife, Erin, live in Boston where they enjoy hiking, biking and kayaking in the city and surrounding areas. Eric originally hails from Long Island where they frequently travel to visit family, try new wineries or breweries, and attend the occasional Islanders game.
